A Vacation To The Spanish City Of Granada

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

This has got to be one of the best weekend city breaks around.

It is easy to get to from a wide range of European airports.

This is always a good start as it does away with a long drive to begin your break and it also cuts down costs. Of course some may be coming from much further afield so it is a good idea to do a 2 or 3 centre break.

There are also many European coach tours, which visit all the main cities in Andalucia.

If you are looking for good Europe travel deals it is always best to spend time searching around the Internet and using the online tools to build your own break.

Granada is a spectacular city as it is built around the high point of the Alhambra.

This ancient citadel is the main reason most people initially plan their visit to Granada and it is not a disappointment. It is also much larger than most people realise.

There are a few things to consider when planning your visit to the Alhambra.

The best advice is to buy your tickets on line before you go, as the queues are invariably long and the numbers per session are limited so if you are in the queue and the limit is reached you have queued for nothing.

Also it is quite a climb to reach the entrance as you would expect, but there are buses from the centre of Granada.

It is impossible to describe fully how wonderful the Alhambra is.

It has streets and shops, hotels and a palace besides the pools and gardens it is famous for.
The Generalife gardens are a must see but they are a little way from the centre of the Alcazar.
Some of the more famous areas i.e. the Nazareen Palace will have a timed entrance on your ticket and it is important to stick to this.

Wear comfy shoes, as there is a lot of walking.

There are also night visits, which usually mean you can be there for sunset.

If the Alhambra were the only reason to visit Granada it would be worth going, but as with so may cities they have diverse attractions. For example the Cathedral is spectacular and it is where the tombs are of Ferdinand and Isabella who conquered Granada in 1492. Also, as with many Cathedrals there is plenty of wonderful art and artefacts so allow plenty of time for your visit.

It is an excellent city for walking around, as it is not too big.

There are lots of narrow streets or ?calles? with Tapas bars which are an especially good way to start off an evening, which by the way could be a trip to the caves to experience the Flamenco.

How would you like to enjoy Granada tapas?

I can?t imagine many answering ?no?.

The city has so much to offer. You may just visit when the Medieval market is on when the whole of the square in front of the Cathedral looks, for a short while as though it has slipped back 500 years. There are spit roasts, stalls selling crafts brought in by the people who have actually made the jewellery, food etc that they are selling. There are stalls selling toys of the period and a group of musicians playing medieval instruments stroll around the market.

Unless you want to travel outside Granada a weekend is just the right length for a first visit and if you fall ?under its spell? you can always return.

Amsterdam: Red Light District And More

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Over the years Amsterdam has become synonymous with liberal attitudes ? whether it’s in the form of naked chicks in the red light district, their forward thinking towards homosexual culture or their relaxed laws regarding marijuana. Because of some of these, many parents feel uncomfortable taking their children to the city. That, however, isn’t necessary as the Dutch capital offers much for all tastes and ages.

Because of its flat terrain Amsterdam is a wonderful city to cycle through. Many of the locals use this mode of transportation on a daily basis as it’s cheaper and more practical than to drive or use public transport. On sunny summer days it’s also a wonderful way to get out and feel a fresh breeze in the radiant sunshine. Amsterdam also has many canals that can be used for transportation means, but for the normal visitor this will normally be done as part of a guided tour.

There’s much to see in the city that means all tourists will be enthralled.

Art lovers will be keen to see all the museums in town. There are three world class museums all within touching distance of one another in the Museum Quarter ? the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art and the Rijksmuesum.

Art is a predominant factor in all of these venues. The Rijksmuseum houses work by Rembrandt, Steen, van Ruisdael and that ilk. The nearby Van Gogh Museum has the biggest collection of art created by the man equally as famous for his substandard number of ears.

If the Rijksmuseum doesn’t have enough Rembrandt for your liking, the Dutch city also has the Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn house on display. As one of Europe’s greatest known painters, this house gets many visitors each year as people look to find out more about his life and his work. The house contains a collection of more than 250 pieces of original Rembrandt work.

Another famous house in Amsterdam is the one that Anne Frank hid in during the Second World War. Opened to the public in the 60s, the house is still in the condition it was in when the young Jew kept her diary while hiding in the family attic. Frank’s house ? also known as the Achterhuise ? shows the hiding place and conditions that the young girl experienced.

Of course, it’s not all history and art in Amsterdam. The city is one of the most visited by stag parties, keen to enjoy the locally brewed beers, coffee houses and the hot naked chicks in the red light district. This district centres around Zeedijk Street and as well as brothels and strip shows offers many bars and restaurants to the curious ? but not committed ? members of the party.

Universal Studios Is Presenting Its Visitors The New Amazing Attraction.

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Kuka Arm 3D Experience is what’s planned for the flagship ride “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey”.

Walt Disney World unveiled its newest attraction earlier this year, a significant addition featuring first-of-its-kind robo-simulators that allow guests to design?and then ride?their own creations

The Newest Ride

What is particularly intriguing is that it offers a glimpse of what to expect in an even bigger attraction being built at Universal Orlando as part of that resort’s highly anticipated harry potter theme park. Called “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey”. Of course, this is where the details were few and far between as they are still holding the cards for this one very close to the chest right now.

The Disney attraction, built by Ratheon, features a robot that spring riders through the air. This technology wes developed by German robotics company KUKA Aktiengesellschaft, which builds similar arms used by car manufacturers on assembly lines. Those robotic arms is the future of theme parks, simple reason being?you can save on space devoted to the real roller coasters. Thus the land cost can be seriously reduced in the future.

This technology has never been used in a theme park before. But it is likely to have company soon.

This is not your daddy’s rollercoaster

Universal has considered using robot arms for The “Forbidden Journey of Harry Potter”, the centerpiece wizarding world of harry potter attractions in its $200 million-plus Wizarding World project inside Islands of Adventure. It is all a big secret now, but we have information that certain construction documents show that the resort is working with a company that builds ride systems based on KUKA arms.

The arms have several advantages. Unlike conventional linear rides, for instance, the robot arms in the “Sum of All Thrills” can move in every direction at once because they rotate on six different axes. The animation software is similar to virtual reality, and enables you to REALLY feel like you are on a roller coaster.

“We were able to make a smoother ride,” Goodman said.

Universal’s attraction is bigger and better

Disney’s “Sum of All Thrills” is not identical to Universal’s “Forbidden Journey”. The Harry Potter attraction, which will be housed in the Hogwarts Castle,is grander experience.
Universal’s ride’s robot arms advance along a track even as they throw riders in various directions. In contrast the bases of the robot arms in the Sum of All Thrills are fixed in place. Meaning this attraction is the next step in the evolution.

Aerospace company is a new player in the Theme Park business

For Raytheon, the “Sum of All Thrills” is part of a new outreach effort that also includes sponsoring the New England Patriots’ new Hall of Fame in Massachusetts.

William Swanson, chairman and chief executive officer of Waltham, Mass.-based Raytheon, said the goal is to get more children interested in learning about math and science — and, not coincidentally, help ensure a continued stream of prospective employees in the future.

We do not think that is the case, Raytheon is obviously trying to extend it’s brand recognition.

Information Of The Harry Potter Theme Park Attractions

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.

The flagship ride of the wizarding world of harry potter. Built in the 150 foot tall Hogwarts Castle the ride will feature the revolutionary KUKA Arm technology. The rider will be tossed and turned in all possible directions along with the video track of Harry Potter Adventures.

The name was given by the books creator and inventor J.K Rowling. It promises to be a far better version of the “Sum of all thrills” attraction in Epcot Center Orlando, Florida.

Flight of the Hippogriff.

This ride described as a family-orientated ride that replicates a Hippogriff - the half-horse, half-eagle beast from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - training lessons over Hogwarts castle.

Dragon Challenge.

Is a twin speed ride that will feature elements from the fourth book “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”, where the story hero had to fight the Dragon in order to advance to the next stage of the tournament.

Hogwarts Castle.

Standing 150 feet tall, the castle will appear to tower some 600 feet up due to architectural tricks the parks creators have put in place. The castle will have classrooms, the iconic “Secret Room”, Dumbledor’s office along with the portraits of past headmaster, Gryffindor quarters, and many many more landmarks from the series.

“Harry Potter continues to spark the imaginations of fans of all ages and we really have seen the anticipation continue to build for The Wizarding World,” said Brad Globe, President of Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

Hogsmeade village.

The iconic village that we, as readers, about in the third year in “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” will feature the “Hog’s Head” Pub, where wizard drinks, pumpkin juice and butter beer will be offered, along with “traditional British food fare”.

The Hogwarts Express will take us to the Hogsmeade train station where your Adventure will begin.

Ollivander’s magic wand shop.

If you always wanted to be chosen by a wand, here is your fantasy coming true. When you visit Ollivander’s wand shop, you will be able to get yourself a magic wand.

The wands are made in different sizes, of various types of wood, and will vary in weight. Each wand will have a different sensor that will react differently to each person’s hand, thus “selecting its owner. We are crazy excited about this store as it promises to be so much fun.

The Forbidden Forest.

This is the most mysterious part of the park. We don’t know where exactly it will be located, but Universal Studios
